Overview

Mitsubishi created the Lancer Evo VI Tommi Mäkinen Edition (often also referred to as Lancer Evo 6.5, or just TME) based on Mäkinen’s own rally car, to honour the driver’s four consecutive WRC Drivers' championship wins in 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999. The car is based on one of Mitsubishi’s most successful CP9A platforms, has a 4G63T engine, titanium turbo and is officially tarmac spec. It is the homologation model of what remains to this day the last Mitsubishi car to win the WRC title.

Compared to the standard Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI, the TME was fitted with an angrier-looking bespoke front bumper; 17-inch white Enkei wheels; a leather MOMO steering wheel and gear knob with red contrast stitching; and featured red and black Recaro bucket seats embossed with ‘T. Makinen Edition’ and ´Recaro´ logos. From the technical side, TME has sharper steering with a quicker steering ratio; a titanium turbo with a quicker spool; stiffer, 10mm lower suspension; front upper strut brace; Brembo 17" ventilated discs with 4-pot aluminium calipers at the front and 16" ventilated discs with 2-pot aluminium calipers for the rear brakes.

During its production between December 1999 and March 2001 a total of 2500 units were produced, approximately 500 in each colour – Pyrenees Black Pearl, Satellite Silver, Canal Blue, Scotia White, and Passion Red – of which the latter two (especially wearing the optional special decals replicating Tommi Mäkinen's rally car's colour scheme) have become the most desirable among collectors.

One of the reasons the Evo TME stands out is how light it is, weighing only 1,365 kilograms – nearly 250kg, or a quarter of a metric tonne, lighter than the latest production-version Evo X. The car is able to accelerate from 0 to 100kph (0-62 mph) in under five seconds.

Our TME is in stunning Scotia White, initially registered on 21st of March 2000 and owned for the first 17 years of her life by a Mitsubishi dealership in Japan (Tohoku Mitsubishi Motors Sales Co.). In early 2018 the car was purchased and imported to European Union by a Mitsubishi dealer in Estonia, Metro Auto OÜ, who used the car for marketing and promotional purposes. It has been fully serviced throughout its lifetime, with a total mileage of just slightly over 80 000 kilometers. The car has fully-documented ownership history, with both a standalone Japanese service book and a double-entry EU service book, where the Japanese service entries have been recorded in addition to the services performed in the EU.

As a unique standout feature, Tommi Mäkinen himself signed the car’s bonnet and a solid metal plate installed inside the car on 1st of August 2018, at the Tommi Mäkinen Racing/Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT facilities located in Tallinn, Estonia.
